exhibition wall: types, rent or buy.
The wall is the backbone of every exhibition stand. It decides whether a visitor stops, how big the graphic surface is, and how many different messages you can place in the same m². This guide explains what types of exhibition walls exist, when Octawall pays off versus Maxima, and how much rental or purchase costs.

why the wall is the stand’s structural element
The counter makes the first impression, the wall carries the whole message. The wall is the largest vertical surface on your stand, which means the largest graphic space (logo, tagline, visual, catalogue). Without walls a stand is just floor and furniture, which visually drowns in the neighbouring exhibitors in the hall.
The wall is also a structural element. It carries the ceiling (illuminated frames, baldachin), shelves (samples, products), electrics (cables routed through) and TVs / monitors. A considered wall system has all of this built into the aluminium profile.
A third role of the wall is acoustic and privacy boundary: it separates your conversation from the neighbour, allows a more private corner for talks and steers visitor flow inside the stand.
- Largest graphic surface on the stand (logo, tagline, visual, catalogue).
- Structural element (ceiling, shelf, cables, monitors).
- Acoustic and privacy boundary with neighbouring exhibitors.
- Without walls = visual drowning in the neighbouring stands.

types of exhibition walls
By shape we distinguish straight, corner (L), enclosing (U), closed (island) and floating walls. The straight wall is the basic one, 1 to 6 m long, suitable for a row stand (1 open side). The L corner wall covers a corner and gives visibility from two sides. The U wall surrounds three sides and creates a showroom corner. The closed island is used for premium or conceptual presentations.
The floating wall is special: it is not fixed to the floor but hangs from a baldachin or rests on other walls. This allows graphics above the whole stand (overhead branding), visible from 20 to 50 metres away. A floating wall needs special supports and the organiser’s height clearance (usually above 4 m).
- Straight wall: 1 to 6 m, for a row stand (1 open side).
- L corner wall: corner placement, visibility from two sides.
- U enclosing wall: covers 3 sides, showroom space.
- Closed island walls: premium conceptual appearance, 4 sides.
- Floating wall: overhead branding, visible from distance, above 4 m.

wall materials: panels, mdf, fabric with graphics
An Octanorm wall is an aluminium profile structure filled with panels. The standard panel is melamine (white or grey), MDF in any colour, or fabric (textile) with printed graphics. All panels are interchangeable: after the fair you change only the graphics, the structure stays.
A special option is the illuminated panel: a translucent or milky-white panel with LED lighting behind. A wall with illuminated panels is the strongest pull in a busy hall, because it competes with the lit stands of the competition.
For quick campaign swaps use textile (printed fabric stretched on a frame). A textile panel changes in 2 minutes without tools and packs into a small crate for transport.
- Standard: melamine (white/grey), coloured MDF, fabric with graphics.
- Illuminated panel: translucent / milky-white + LED behind.
- Textile (fabric on frame): fast graphics swap without tools.
- All panels interchangeable: structure stays, graphics change.
the wall as a graphic carrier
Graphics on the wall must be readable at 5 to 10 metres (the average visitor distance in a hall). That means: logo at least 40 cm, main headline readable at 3 metres (font 30 cm and up). Secondary text (product list, contact) goes in a smaller field, readable at 1 to 2 metres.
Wall graphics printing: panel size 50 × 250 cm or 100 × 250 cm (standard), CMYK with 3 mm bleed, resolution 150 to 300 dpi. File in PDF or AI. Print + delivery: 5 to 10 days.
For greater visibility, add illuminated panels between the standard ones, or an Octalumina frame above the wall. This increases visibility in a busy hall 2 to 3 times without enlarging the walls.
- Logo at least 40 cm, headline 30 cm+ (readable at 3 m).
- Panel size: standard 50 × 250 cm or 100 × 250 cm.
- Print: CMYK, 3 mm bleed, 150 to 300 dpi, PDF/AI, 5 to 10 days.
- Illuminated panels or Octalumina frame for greater visibility.
octawall vs maxima vs octanorm classic: when which
Octawall is a modular wall system for fast tool-free assembly: panels click into aluminium profiles. Ideal for standard stands, fast graphics swaps and rental. Octawall Pro adds height up to 4 m and TV / monitor support.
Maxima is the heavier sister line with sturdier profiles and higher load capacity (for walls above 4 m, heavy equipment, two-storey builds). Ideal for large stands, premium presentations and long-term equipment.
Octanorm Classic is the original system since 1969, slower to assemble (screws) but the safest pick for demanding appearances (premium materials, special dimensions, long runs).
- Octawall: fast tool-free assembly, standard stand, rental.
- Octawall Pro: height up to 4 m, TV / monitor support.
- Maxima: sturdy profiles, load capacity, two-storey builds.
- Octanorm Classic: premium, original system, long runs.

renting an exhibition wall
Wall rental is the standard for a single appearance or a new exhibitor’s first fair. With rental you receive walls placed on the stand for your term, with printed graphics and set-up / take-down included. After the fair we take the walls back.
Rental includes set-up and take-down, plus the base graphics (panel with the logo + company name). Extra graphic panels, illuminated panels, TV mounts and shelves are paid separately. For a repeat exhibitor, three rentals in a row quickly close in on the purchase price.
- Ideal for: single appearance, first fair, unknown frequency.
- Included: walls, set-up, take-down, base graphics.
- By agreement: extra graphic panels, illuminated panels, TV mounts, shelves.
- Price range (indicative): wall rental from 30 to 80 EUR/m² for a standard appearance.
- Limit: after the fair nothing of yours remains (second appearance = a new rental).

buying your own wall
Purchase pays off when you exhibit twice a year or more. An Octanorm wall has a 5 to 10 year life; the modular system lets you use the same profiles in a straight, corner or island layout. After the third or fourth appearance the wall is paid off.
A bought wall’s competitive edge: fast graphics swaps (textile in 2 minutes, panel without tools), no logistics in / out of the stand-builder’s warehouse, full control of the design that stays consistent across campaigns.
- Ideal for: 2+ appearances per year, long-term exhibitor.
- Payback (indicative): a wall often pays back in 3 to 4 appearances.
- Modularity: straight → corner → island from the same profiles.
- Graphics: panel or textile interchangeable without tools.

how much does an exhibition wall cost
Wall price depends on length, height, material and lighting. Rental of a standard Octawall wall is indicatively 30 to 80 EUR/m² per appearance (includes set-up, take-down and base graphics). Purchase of an Octawall wall 100 to 250 EUR/m² structure + 50 to 150 EUR/m² graphic panels.
Illuminated walls are pricier: rental 80 to 150 EUR/m², purchase 250 to 500 EUR/m². The Maxima system for large builds 150 to 400 EUR/m² structure. Graphics prices stay the same.
These are indicative ranges, not a quotation. Send the stand floor plan, desired height and wall type; we prepare a proposal with rental and purchase to compare.
- Octawall standard rental: 30 to 80 EUR/m² (indicative).
- Octawall purchase: 100 to 250 EUR/m² structure + 50 to 150 EUR/m² graphics.
- Illuminated wall: rental 80 to 150 EUR/m², purchase 250 to 500 EUR/m².
- Maxima system: 150 to 400 EUR/m² structure.
rent or buy: how to decide
One appearance a year: rental. Two or more appearances a year: purchase, because rentals add up and the wall stays. The middle path is turnkey production with an option to buy: we place the wall and you decide after the fair whether to buy it or return it.
For large, repeating appearances (showroom, regular presentations), purchase with expandability (buy more profiles for a larger wall over time) is the best investment.
- One appearance a year: rental.
- Two or more appearances a year: purchase, pays back in 3 to 4 appearances.
- Not sure: turnkey production with an option to buy.
- Showroom + regular appearances: purchase with expandability.
three steps to a wall for your fair
First: send the stand floor plan, desired height and wall type (straight / corner / floating / illuminated). Second: you receive a proposal with the system (Octawall / Maxima / Classic) and two scenarios (rental / purchase). Third: you confirm the variant, and we take over graphics production, set-up and take-down.
We set up across the Adria region, delivery in one place.
frequently asked questions
Standard height is 2.5 m (Octawall) or 3 m (Octawall Pro). For taller walls (up to 4 m) or floating walls you need the Maxima system, and often the organiser’s height clearance for the over-height build.
Yes, Octawall Pro and Maxima support mounts for TVs and monitors up to 65" and above. The standard Octawall wall supports lighter monitors up to 32". Send the TV weight and dimensions; we pick the right system.
For a standard straight wall 5 m × 2.5 m: 1 to 2 hours for 2 people. For larger builds (corner, island, with a floating wall) 3 to 6 hours. Octawall is faster than Classic (no tools).
Yes, if it is a modular Octanorm system. The walls dismantle into flat parts, transport in a crate and assemble to the same or a different layout at the next fair. Graphics change without tools (textile) or by swapping panels.
Direct print onto a panel (most durable, hard to swap), print onto an interchangeable panel (standard for campaigns), textile on a stretched frame (fastest swap), translucent illuminated panel (strongest visual). All in CMYK, 3 mm bleed, 150 to 300 dpi.
A small stand suits a straight wall 3 to 4 m × 2.5 m high, an L corner wall, or a backdrop (rear wall only). Do not place U enclosing walls that would wrap the whole stand and rob the visitor of room to enter.
Yes. The Octanorm system (Octawall + Octalumina + OL counters + Octarig for the ceiling) is designed so all elements work together. Profiles and mounts are compatible, cables route through the profiles, the graphics are coordinated.
For a standard rental, 2 to 4 weeks before the fair. For a bespoke purchase or illuminated wall, 6 to 8 weeks to allow time for design, build and graphics testing. For large builds (island, floating, two-storey), 8 to 12 weeks.
